 | Swords Brooks Wins AAA Award
Monday, April 25th, 2011: 27-year-old Gabriel Brooks sent shock waves through Triple A last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the US Triple A League Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Brooks made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .467 average, 14 hits in 30 at-bats, 3 home runs and 9 runs batted in.
Where the Rochester Swords left fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Brooks certainly made his mark last week.
So far this year Brooks has hit .368 with 5 home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored. |
 | Baker Big Deal in Berkeley: Hits for Cycle
Saturday, April 23rd, 2011: At People's Ballpark today Cody Baker led Berkeley to a 14-3 victory over the Cardinals by hitting for the cycle, one of baseball's most difficult feats.
The Badgers left fielder told reporters after the game, "Most people think the triple is the hardest one to get, but today, it was the homer... because the ball wasn't carrying. When I took it deep, I expected the ball to die on the warning track. Seeing the umpire give me the signal to circle the bases was sweet."
In addition to going 4-5, Baker chalked up 4 RBI and scored 4 runs in an exceptional performance.
C. Baker hit a solo-shot off J. Díaz in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run triple in the 6th and flied out in the 6th.
For the season Baker has hit .381 with 6 home runs and 22 RBIs. He has played in 21 games and scored 20 times. |
