HL's Top Player, Roberts of Thunder Bay

Monday, June 18th, 2018: A red-hot bat made Ralph Roberts the obvious choice for this week's Hurlers League Player of the Week.

The Thunder Bay shortstop laid down some numbers that no one else could match, including a .600 average, 15 hits in 25 at-bats, 1 home run, 5 RBIs and 12 runs scored. Say no more... he got the award.

This year Roberts is hitting .328 with 1 home run and 27 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .399 clip and scored 55 runs.

 

Little Lebowskis Richard Woodard Swings Hot Bat, SL Winner

Monday, June 18th, 2018: Woodard swung a blistering bat last week for New York, rapping out 16 hits in 30 at-bats against Little Lebowskis opponents to propel himself to the Sluggers League Player of the Week Award.

Whenever the right fielder hit the ball, he hit it with authority. The 26-year-old racked up a .533 batting average with 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

This season Woodard is batting .346 with 103 hits, 29 home runs, 66 RBIs, .394 OBP and has scored 64 runs.

 

Héctor Román Out for 5-6 Months

Sunday, June 17th, 2018: Team doctors diagnosed Héctor Román with a broken bone in the elbow and told the South Florida Skeeters second baseman that he will miss 5-6 months. Román was hurt running the bases in a game against the Fort Worth Longhorns.

So far this year Román is batting .316 with 1 home run, 3 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

 

Longhorns Morrison Hits 300th Homer

Sunday, June 17th, 2018: Fort Worth Longhorns slugging left fielder Scott Morrison swatted his way to the 300 home run mark today as the Longhorns fell to the South Florida 12-3.

For his part, Morrison chipped in 2 RBI, scored 1 run and collected 1 hit in 3 at-bats, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

"It was a special day for Scott," the team publicist said afterward, "He was disappointed at the result, but everyone was all smiles as he crossed home plate. We're proud of him."

In his career Morrison has hit for a .303 average and totaled 1571 hits, 300 home runs and 1087 RBIs.

 

Clay Sidelined for 4 Months

Sunday, June 17th, 2018: Earlier today, Houston starting pitcher Murray Clay had to leave the game against Minot because of an injury. Team officials are reporting that he has bone chips in his elbow and will miss 4 months of play. Clay was hurt throwing a pitch and was unable to continue playing. He will be evaluated this afternoon by team physicians.

For the season Clay has logged 6 wins and 6 losses and struck out 25 batters in 88.1 innings while compiling a 5.30 ERA.
